Big Decisions are Made Outside of Meetings
If you think meetings are held to make decisions, think again. Many meetings are summations for decisions that have already been made. Rarely do people walk into a meeting, see information for the first time and then make decisions, although it might appear that way. If this happens, then the meeting risks being ineffective. That is why it is so important to engage with people one-on-one before the meeting. This allows people to express their opinions more openly in private, contribute and feel as though they have been heard. This in turn builds commitment to any decisions. You don\'t have to agree 100%, but you have to feel you have been listened to and heard.
